KnowMe RD was presented in Santiago Rodríguez as a proposal to integrate mobile technology and tourism services into a single platform. The initiative was showcased during the Business Breakfast organized by FUNDESER and the Chamber of Commerce and Production of the province, at a time when digital tourism is gaining importance in travel decision-making.
KnowMe RD and the shift toward mobile tourism
The conference, titled “Maximizing the tourist experience in the mobile era,” was led by Francisco de León, who explained that traveler behavior has changed with the expansion of smartphones and planning apps. According to his data, more than 70% of travel decisions rely on mobile apps, and the interaction for booking or checking routes largely takes place from the smartphone.
De León linked this shift to the growth of digital tourism and the need for tools that reduce friction between the visitor and the local offering. In this scenario, KnowMe RD emerges as an application designed to showcase emergencies, museums, beaches, hotels, businesses, routes, transportation, and tourist experiences in different areas of the country.
KnowMe RD connects local offerings with visitors
The KnowMe RD proposal also includes connection with verified guides, providers, and businesses, in addition to personalized recommendations and smart itineraries. The platform adds geolocation tools to suggest nearby events, gastronomic routes, and attractions depending on the user’s current location.
- Geolocation to locate nearby services and experiences.
- Personalized recommendations based on interests and location.
- Smart itineraries to organize tours.
- Verified providers to facilitate trust and access.
Regional context on KnowMe RD and digital tourism
The commitment to KnowMe RD coincides with a regional trend: tourist destinations seek to centralize information, bookings, and experiences in digital channels. In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Tourism has already promoted mobile tourist guidance tools, confirming that the country is moving toward more integrated models of promotion and service.
The event was attended by Yira Ramonet, Ambassador of Panama; Romeo Lantigua, President of FUNDESER; Darío Lantigua, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santiago Rodríguez; Pedro Espinal, from the Josián Espinal Cultural House; and business representatives from various sectors.
The challenge for KnowMe RD: adoption and updating
The real value of KnowMe RD will depend on its adoption by tourists and local businesses, as well as the quality and updating of the data it offers. In tourist applications, usefulness lies not only in displaying information, but in keeping it current, verifiable, and useful for planning each trip or visit.
De León stated that mobile tourism already drives billions of downloads and hours of use globally, a sign that tools like KnowMe RD can become allies of commerce, culture, and tourist mobility in provinces like Santiago Rodríguez. With this foundation, KnowMe RD aims to integrate into the Dominican tourism ecosystem as a more direct gateway between the traveler and the local offering.
