The Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim) agent, Oliver Rojas Núñez, alias “Chuky” or “The Minor”, was shot dead this Wednesday in the Progreso neighborhood, La Herradura sector, Santiago, after a confrontation with agents who were attempting to execute a standing arrest warrant. The National Police reported that, upon noticing the police presence, Rojas Núñez allegedly opened fire on the agents, who were forced to repel the attack. During the confrontation, a projectile struck a wounded police officer and, subsequently, the suspect died while receiving medical attention.
Arrest warrant context
The case unfolded under arrest warrant number 2026‑AJ0081076, pending execution. Rojas Núñez was wanted for allegedly causing blows and injuries to his romantic partner in September 2026, and also for his involvement in an incident on January 28, 2026 in the La Laguna area of Puerto Plata, where he supposedly fired at a police patrol, hitting a residence. Additionally, the agent was identified as a co‑author of the death of Ignacio Minaya, alias “Cecilio”, 58, who died on March 8, 2026 in the Muñoz sector, Batey 1, Puerto Plata, due to a gunshot wound.
Links to other criminal acts
Rojas Núñez was also listed as linked to an armed robbery that occurred in July 2024 in Villa Montellano, where a citizen lost a cell phone and cash. After his capture, authorities seized the phone that was presumably stolen.
Procedures and case closure
The body of Rojas Núñez was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding legal purposes. The operation concluded with the elimination of the suspect and the recovery of weapons and electronic devices potentially linked to his criminal activity.
