The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, asked the members of the Group of Seven (G7) to avoid restrictions on crude and diesel exports, with the aim of containing the rise in fuel prices and ensuring global supply. The message was conveyed to Donald Trump, President of United States, and to Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, during overnight talks on the global energy situation, the French Presidency said.
On Saturday, at 2:30 p.m. local time, Macron will lead a videoconference with the G7 leaders –Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Japan– to discuss the energy crisis. France, which holds the G7 presidency this year, is coordinating the meeting with the International Energy Agency (IEA) and European authorities to design measures that ease pressure on markets.
Planned measures
The French leader announced that the group will release up to 100 million barrels of crude and diesel over the next four months. It will also ensure that there are no bans on diesel exports among member countries.
Goal of the coordination
Macron argues that joint measures will strengthen global supply and help stabilize energy prices. The president emphasized that the G7’s common interests justify coordinated action without barriers that could affect the market.
