Pedernales, RD. Members of the 16th Infantry Battalion of the Army of the Dominican Republic, stationed at the Cuki Malote crossing, detained two Haitian citizens who were attempting to enter national territory through an unauthorized passage in Pedernales, transporting a large sum of cash without proper declaration.
The detainees, identified as Manestin Placide and Jean Romarque Dauphin, were intercepted while traveling in a Daihatsu Hijet white truck.
During the inspection, the military found in their possession a total of four hundred twenty-eight thousand Dominican pesos (RD$428,000.00), an amount they were attempting to introduce into the country without meeting the established customs requirements, thus evading the corresponding taxes.
Following their detention, the Haitian citizens were handed over to the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), for the corresponding legal process.
