Santo Domingo. – The National Irrigation Technification Directorate (TNR) and the Community Technological Centers (CTC) formalized an interinstitutional agreement aimed at strengthening technical training, access to information and agricultural innovation in rural communities across the country.
The signing ceremony, held in the Gilberto Reynoso hall at the TNR headquarters, was led by Claudio Caamaño Vélez, executive director of the TNR, and Isidro Torres, general director of the CTC. During his remarks, Caamaño Vélez emphasized that this alliance will enable the delivery of training in modernized irrigation, technical assistance, and incentive programs directly to producers, leveraging the infrastructure and communication capacity of the CTC.
“I am sure that what we sign today will not remain on paper. This agreement is like a marriage certificate. We will build a solid institutional relationship, with real fruits benefiting the countryside,” Caamaño said.
For his part, Isidro Torres valued the strategic reach of this collaboration, making available to the TNR more than 100 community centers distributed in rural areas, as well as a network of 78 operational community radio stations nationwide. “These spaces are often the only source of information in remote communities. Through them, we will support the dissemination of educational content and technical guidance for our farmers,” he stated.
Torres also emphasized the need to work with transparency and institutional commitment: “Today more than ever we need officials committed to transforming the territory from within the communities. The CTC are fully available to support this effort.”
The agreement establishes lines of collaboration in farmer training, the use of the radio network to disseminate technical content, and the utilization of CTC infrastructure as venues for workshops and community activities.
The TNR commits to delivering talks, workshops and trainings tailored to local needs, as well as providing the CTC with technological resources —such as computers and audio equipment— to strengthen joint educational and radio programs. Additionally, it will develop specialized programs in the design, installation and maintenance of modernized irrigation systems.
For its part, the CTC will provide physical spaces and logistical support, as well as the use of their community radio stations to publicize TNR services and projects. They will also produce educational radio content and present semi‑annual reports on the progress of joint actions.
The agreement also includes the implementation of coordinated research, innovation and technology transfer activities, along with the production of audiovisual materials and publications aimed at institutional strengthening. Both parties will establish a common work plan and promote their services in communities, sharing experiences and best practices.
This joint effort is part of the Dominican Government’s commitment to close technological gaps, increase agricultural productivity and democratize access to modern tools that drive sustainable development of rural areas.
