Mexico City.- A distinctive mark was registered in the Mexican Banks Association (ABM) by appointing for the first time a woman, Regina García Cuéllar, as its new general director. García Cuéllar, who is also co-president of 50/50 Women on Boards Mexico, will take over from Juan Carlos Jiménez Rojas starting this Monday.
In a statement released by the ABM it was announced, “The Board of Directors and Associates committees have proceeded to appoint Dr. Regina García Cuéllar as the next general director of the ABM, relieving Lic. Juan Carlos Jiménez Rojas of his duties”.
Julio Carranza, president of the ABM, remembered Jiménez Rojas’ farewell from his responsibility in May and praised his 19 years of service “with notable professionalism and distinction”. Additionally, he applauded “the enormous work, commitment and dedication” of the organization’s members to the banking sector.
Specifically, Carranza expressed recognition to José Miguel Domínguez and Rodrigo Navarro for assuming the role of interim general directors of the association during the last three months.
On the other hand, Carranza extended a warm welcome to García Cuéllar, highlighting her milestone as the first woman to assume the General Directorship of the ABM.
The new director comes with over a quarter of a century of experience covering sectors such as banking, telecommunications, health and energy, and involving herself in business transformation processes, strategic planning, economic analysis, customer experience improvement, and data-driven decision-making.
García Cuéllar obtained her degree in Economics from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) and a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University.
Her professional career includes important positions in IZZI Telecom, Citibanamex, Petróleos Mexicano (Pemex), the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP).
The ABM expressed its conviction that “under her guidance we will continue to overcome the sector’s challenges successfully and remain one of the most prominent entities in the country”, while wishing García Cuéllar “all the best” in her new stage.
Founded in 1928, the Mexican Banks Association currently groups 48 multiple banking institutions, with the objective of advocating for the general interests of the sector.
