MONTECRISTI. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, carried out a supervisory visit of the progress in the works of the Manzanillo Natural Gas Power Plant, which is being built in the municipality of Pepillo Salcedo, and will enter operation starting in 2025, and will inject 414 megawatts into the electric grid.
During the visit, the minister stated that this power plant will make great contributions to the stability of the entire electric system of Dominican Republic, since it will meet the growing energy demand that the country experiences due to accelerated economic development and high temperatures.

He said that this combined-cycle thermoelectric plant will produce 414 net MW, operating with liquefied natural gas designed by Siemens-Energy, and that it is part of the energy complex being developed in the Montecristi province by the companies Energía 2000 and Elecnor.
«This visit that we have made with the developer group Energía 2000 is to see the progress of this important work, not only for the Montecristi area, but for the country, since it will provide cheap energy and also help stabilize the entire electric system» said Santos Echavarría after hearing the explanations of the work’s progress from José Castillo, project manager.
The official added that within this project the 345 KV line is incorporated, which runs from Pepillo Salcedo to El Naranjo, which will be an artery to transport the energy produced in the referenced project to the rest
