Fuel prices increase between RD$2.00 and RD$4.00. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MICM) reported that the Dominican Government allocated another RD$1770.65 million in subsidies to fuels, to contain the increases in the international prices of refined products, during the week of September 26 to October 2, 2026. The international price of oil continues to record increases, especially in its refined products, due to the conflict in the Middle East and the limitations on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
This week, the barrel of gasoline was around US$160, the regular diesel was around US$180 and the premium diesel was around US$206. The Dominican Republic imports finished products, not crude. This situation forces the Government to make a RD$3.00 peso adjustment to premium gasoline, RD$2.00 pesos to regular gasoline, RD$4.00 for optimal diesel and RD$3.00 for regular diesel respectively.
Impact on the Economy
The crisis has forced the Dominican Government to allocate more than RD$35,541 million through the Anticrisis Plan, to amortize the impact of the increases in the pockets of Dominicans. The subsidy allocated so far this year already exceeds the one allocated in 2022, where the Government had to allocate important resources to contain the inflation derived from the start of the war in Ukraine.
The President Luis Abinader pleaded with the General Assembly of the United Nations for a de-escalation in the conflict and free navigation, due to the impact that this impasse is having on the costs of energy and fuels, especially for economies like that of the Dominican Republic.
Fuel Prices
For this week, the prices of GLP and Natural Gas will remain unchanged. While the prices of avtur will be adjusted to RD$8.41, kerosene will decrease by RD$4.60, fuel oil #6 will decrease by RD$1.66 and fuel oil #1 will decrease by RD$4.08.
The Government subsidizes each gallon consumed by Dominicans with RD$30.49 in GLP, RD$45.81 in premium gasoline, RD$69.32 in regular gasoline, RD$111.21 in regular diesel and RD$117.21 in optimal diesel.
Fuels will be sold at the following prices: Premium Gasoline will be sold at RD$353.10 per gallon, up RD$3.00. Regular Gasoline RD$317.50 per gallon, up RD$2.00. Regular Diesel RD$270.80 per gallon, up RD$3.00. Optimal Diesel RD$306.10 per gallon, up RD$4.00.
Avtur RD$336.99 per gallon, down RD$8.41. Kerosene RD$383.70 per gallon, down RD$4.60. Fuel Oil #6 RD$176.72 per gallon, down RD$1.66. Fuel Oil 1%S RD$210.39 per gallon, down RD$4.08. Gas Liquified Petroleum (GLP) RD$135.20 per gallon, maintains its price. Natural Gas RD$43.97 per m3, maintains its price.
