The head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Pueblo’s Force, Josefina Reynoso, formally requested the Chamber of Accounts to conduct an audit of the police reform spending that covers the Fideicomiso for the Transformation and Professionalization of the National Police (FTPN) and all public resources allocated to the process between 2021 and 2026 .

This request arises while the Government is pushing a new police reform project, but before starting a new stage, the country needs answers about the previous one. After six years of announcements and multi-million dollar investments, Dominicans require knowing the real cost of the police reform and the verifiable results obtained.

How much has been invested in the police reform?

According to recent data, the modernization of the National Police between 2024 and 2025 involved an investment of RD$8.389,8 million . Despite this figure, the perception of insecurity remains one of the main concerns of the population, and the facts of violence continue to generate doubts about the real impact of the investment.

Transparency demanded in the audit of the police reform spending

Josefina Reynoso considers it indispensable that the Chamber of Accounts determines: the total amount invested in the police reform (2021-2026), the resources executed through the FTPN, the destination of those funds, the degree of execution of the projects, the fulfillment of objectives and the correspondence between investment and institutional results.

The accountability as a constitutional obligation

Reynoso stated that “transparency cannot begin when it is convenient nor end when new laws are announced”. If the Government claims to develop an effective reform during six years, it must render accounts on the use of the received resources, the goals achieved and why the citizenry does not perceive a transformation proportional to the investment made.

The leader reiterated that this request is a legitimate exercise of democratic oversight and defense of the public interest. The resources of the police reform belong to the Dominican people, not to the Government in office.

In conclusion, the audit of the police reform spending does not weaken the institutions; it strengthens them. The accountability is a constitutional obligation to all Dominicans, and transparency is fundamental to ensure that public investment generates concrete transformations. The people demand to know how the funds are administered, where they are invested, and what results the police reform has produced in recent years.
