The Dominican government has decided to allocate RD$53.590 million to carry out road transformation works in the North region, adding to the RD$42.800 million already disbursed in Santiago and surrounding areas. The amount will be directed to projects of the Duarte Highway, the Navarrete Bypass, the Amber Expressway, the San Francisco de Macorís Bypass and the Jarabacoa‑La Vega road, according to Minister of Public Works and Communications Rizik during his remarks in President Luis Abinader’s weekly agenda in Santiago.
Amber Expressway, new route between Santiago and Puerto Plata
The Amber Expressway, whose contract was awarded for RD$28.000 million, already has an advance of RD$5.780 million. The plan foresees allocating RD$11.520 million for 2027 and the same amount for 2028, totaling RD$23.040 million pending execution over the next two years.
Expansion of the Duarte Highway
During 2021‑2026, the expansion of the Duarte Highway recorded an investment of RD$20.748 million. To complete the planned works, RD$5.518 million remains to be disbursed for the rest of 2026 and RD$14.291 million in 2027, totaling RD$19.809 million.
Navarrete and San Francisco de Macorís Bypasses
For Navarrete Bypass I, RD$328.72 million remains pending in 2026 and RD$190.55 million in 2027, totaling RD$519.27 million. Navarrete Bypass II has RD$1.700.34 million remaining in 2026 and RD$462.09 million in 2027, summing RD$2.162.43 million. The third phase of the project shows RD$1.786.33 million in 2026 and RD$394.52 million in 2027, reaching RD$2.180.85 million. The San Francisco de Macorís Bypass has invested RD$1.465.31 million between 2022 and 2025.
Jarabacoa‑La Vega Road
The reconstruction and widening of this route reached a total of RD$543.26 million up to 2025.
Impact and Outlook
According to Rizik, the projects constitute a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the northern road network and create better conditions for the movement of people and goods. In addition, the government will incorporate a regional maintenance contract and 150 kilometers of lighting, with 50 kilometers already inaugurated and 100 under implementation, as well as the 511. The expected outcome is reduced travel time and cost, greater safety and favorable conditions for tourism, production, commerce and logistics.
