The navy of the Republic is properly one of the 3 branches of the Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic. It is also known by its abbreviation ARD. In its work, it also formed part of the ordinance of the air force of the Dominican Republic.
Founders of the Navy in the Dominican Republic
It is known that in the initial founding of the Navy of RD there was the presence of a trilogy of naval heroes, integrated by the commanders Juan Bautista Cambiaso, Juan Bautista Maggiolo and Juan Alejandro Acosta.
After the fact, Juan Bautista positions himself as the principal responsible in the foundation, and this same character, would receive subsequently from the Central Government Board a commission to organize the National War Navy, carrying it out in an excellent way.
Navy of the Republic: Organization
In simple words, the navy of the Dominican Republic is the main defense entity of the nation. This hierarchical structure, is organized in the following way:
First place. The supreme chief, in this case, the president of the republic, developing authority work, designating orders and statutes by the organ of the minister of defense.
Second place. The Ministry of Defense, since it is the first instance the successor of the president. In turn, the Minister of Defense will be the main military authority, starting from himself the organization, structuring and administration of all armed bodies.
Third place. We find the Vice Minister of Defense, but in naval and coastal matters.
And, finally, fourth place. The General Command of the Navy of the Dominican Republic; we find the general commander, since he has the command to direct and be responsible for the preparation of these organisms.

A.R.D – Amphibious Command
Within the defense institution, we can find the Amphibious Command, also known by the shown acronyms (A.R.D).
This begins in the year 2008, just when the head of the state general staff consolidated a reorganization in the tactical battalion and the Department of Land Operations; giving way to what would be the amphibious command.
Among the main functions designated for this organism, we can find:
- Protection of infrastructure where the interests of the nation are housed.
- Offensive operations to protect the coasts along the maritime coast.
- Operations in urbanized areas, and providing support to the national police.
- Providing security in naval bases, as well as to the military police, idealizing and executing protection plans.
