The National Police reported on Sunday that two shooting incidents in San Pedro de Macorís and Santiago de los Caballeros resulted in the death of two officers and the death of two suspects. The incidents occurred on September 19 and 21, 2025, respectively.
Death of Jorge Luis Tissol Báez in San Pedro de Macorís
On September 19, the Southeast Regional Subdirectorate, along with a representative of the Public Ministry, executed the search warrant No. 2026-AJ0080852 in a residence in the La Habana sector, Consuelo municipality. The objective was to search for weapons and controlled substances. Upon entering, Jorge Luis Tissol Báez, nicknamed “Yiro” and 34 years old, fired at the agents.
Tissol Báez, identified as a member of the criminal organization “Los Fantasmas”, was under multiple judicial orders, including No. 973-2025-EMES-05136 for his alleged participation in the March 6, 2025 attack in La Caleta, Boca Chica, which left Agustín Alcántara Lora with fatal injuries.
The officer was injured and was transferred to the Dr. Antonio Musa Regional Teaching Hospital, where he died during medical attention. At the scene, a Bersa Thunder 9 pistol, model 744132 with four cartridges, and three 9mm shell casings were found.
Death of Cristofer Almonte Díaz in Santiago de los Caballeros
Two days later, in Santiago, a confrontation on Circunvalación Norte Avenue involved Cristofer Almonte Díaz, 19 years old, nicknamed “Niño”. Almonte Díaz was under arrest warrant No. 2026-AJ0070020-001 for his alleged connection to the aggravated homicide of Amaury Saviñón, which occurred on August 14, 2025, and for violations of Law 631-16 on arms.
Almonte Díaz, along with two people, was in a Hyundai Sonata when the Regional Investigation Subdirectorate (DICRIM) detected him. The suspect fired at the agents, resulting in injury. He was transferred to the José María Cabral and Báez University Regional Hospital, where he died. The other occupants fled.
At the scene, a black pistol, a cell phone, a hat, an electronic cigarette, and a .380 caliber shell casing were found. The bodies were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding procedures, and the weapons and other evidence will be analyzed by the competent authorities.
