La political stability in Venezuela is imposed as a prior condition to any electoral process, according to Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly. In an interview with Newsmax, Rodríguez emphasized that without an agreement with the opposition and a peaceful climate, there will be no electoral calendar.
The chavista leader argued that years of division have generated a deep polarization, exacerbated by the controversial presidential elections of 2024. The opposition denounced fraud in those elections, where Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed winner despite polls that favored Edmundo González. Rodríguez rejected recognizing those results immediately and prioritized political stability to restore institutional normalcy.
Defense of Delcy Rodríguez and constitutional legitimacy
In the dialogue, Rodríguez supported his sister Delcy Rodríguez as interim president, qualified as legitimate under the Constitution of Venezuela. This temporary role seeks to transition towards broad consensuses, in a context where the migration crisis has displaced more than 7 million Venezuelans since 2015, according to UN data.
Economic reforms to attract investment
To achieve political stability, the Government promotes an economic change. Abandoning the socialist model, which caused hyperinflation above 1,000,000% in 2018 according to the IMF, now they promote a free market scheme. Modifications to the oil law facilitate foreign investment in oil, gas and gold, reserves that position Venezuela as an energy power with over 300 billion barrels proven.
Amnesty Law and reconciliation
The Amnesty Law emerges as a key tool for political reconciliation. Allows the return of exiled opponents if they comply with legal norms, excluding promoters of violence or defenders of foreign intervention. Experts like international analyst Luis Vicente León highlight that this measure could reduce tensions, although its implementation faces skepticism due to recent arrests of opposition figures.
The political stability represents a decisive opportunity for Venezuela, combined with economic openness and dialogue. Rodríguez insisted that only thus the country will reintegrate internationally, before sanctions that have cut oil exports by 99% since 2019, per capita of the World Bank. This approach seeks basic consensuses before elections, in a scenario of repressed protests and failed mediation of the Cartagena Group.
