Dominican AI for aviation placed the Dominican Republic among the five most disruptive innovations in Latin America at the Women in Tech® LATAM Awards 2026. The protagonist is air traffic controller Olga Isabel Pérez Encarnación, selected as a Top Five Finalist for developing SARA, a tool aimed at improving processes in the aeronautical sector.

The recognition confirms a trend the industry has already been setting: artificial intelligence is entering forcefully into air traffic management, operational safety, and operational optimization. ICAO has noted that AI is revolutionizing aviation by processing large volumes of data to improve routes, anticipate risks, and increase airspace efficiency.

The selection of this Dominican AI for aviation not only represents an individual achievement, but also a signal of the technical level the country is beginning to showcase in applied innovation. In aviation, AI is already used for predictive maintenance, flight data analysis, and decision-support, areas where a well-designed system can reduce human errors and downtime.

In the case of SARA, the main value lies in its practical approach: solving real needs of the aeronautical environment with technology developed from the Dominican Republic. Such solutions often gain relevance because they connect automation, safety, and efficiency, three critical points in modern aviation.

SARA and the leap of local innovation

SARA stands out within this Dominican AI for aviation because it inserts itself into an industry where precision is not optional. ICAO has warned that integrating AI into air navigation can contribute to congestion prediction, route optimization, and incident anticipation.

For a country like the Dominican Republic, with an air sector key to tourism, connectivity, and cargo, this type of development has strategic relevance. It is not just about technology: it is also a bet on local capabilities in a field historically dominated by major innovation
