MIAMI, FLORIDA. – In a joint effort, the Dominican Consulate General in Florida, United States, and the Ministry of Youth of the Dominican Republic have established a strategic alliance. This union aims to strengthen development policies focused on young Dominicans residing in Florida, where approximately half a million Dominicans are distributed across its 67 counties.
“We mark today a significant date for the advancement of a wide-ranging agenda of bilateral projects between the Ministry of Youth of the Dominican Republic and our Consulate General. We represent a diaspora that strengthens and empowers itself day by day in Florida. Thanks to the visit of Carlos Valdez, this collaboration promises to further bolster our community,” stated Dr. Geanilda Vásquez, Consul General.
At an event with young Dominicans held at the Consulate General, Dr. Vásquez highlighted the crucial role that youth plays within the priorities of the government led by President Luis Abinader, with policies implemented by the current minister in the field.
Within the initiatives of this alliance, the upcoming inauguration of a Single Window of Opportunities (VUO) was announced, aimed at simplifying access to services in favor of the diaspora and young people. The consul general expressed her gratitude for this measure on behalf of the Dominicans residing in Florida.
“We extend our gratitude to Minister Carlos Valdez for including us in his work agenda, in favor of the benefit of young Dominicans in Florida,” noted Consul Geanilda Vásquez.
In this context, Minister of Youth Carlos Valdez proceeded to deliver certificates to the finalists in Miami of the National Youth Award 2025, in the category of Young Dominican Abroad.
Minister Valdez emphasized the importance of celebrating Dominican Week in Miami, an initiative proposed by Dr. Geanilda Vásquez, as well as the upcoming opening of the aforementioned window at Dominican diplomatic installations. This project aims to facilitate access to programs and services provided by the Dominican State for young Dominicans abroad.
The ceremony was led by Dr. Geanilda Vásquez, who welcomed Minister Valdez and Ángelo Ramírez, Vice Minister of Regional Extension of the Ministry of Youth, at the diplomatic installations, in a day characterized by the enthusiasm of Dominican youth abroad.
Accompanying Consul Vásquez were several vice-consuls, including Claudia Sánchez, Enmanuel Correa, and Despradel Novas. Also in attendance were Richard Montilla, head of the Miami Office of the Institute of Dominicans and Dominican Women Abroad; the general secretary of the PRM, Dr. Luis Lasosé; the president of the Youth of the PRM, Juan Medina; among other participants in this event that marked the beginning of a bilateral agenda between the Dominican Consulate General in Miami and the Ministry of Youth of the Dominican Republic.
