The story of Marileidy Paulino, highlighted as the main gold medal hope for the upcoming Olympics in Paris, will be adapted to the big screen, according to what the company in charge of its production revealed last Thursday.
This adaptation, titled “Marileidy”, is a work of fiction inspired “by the impressive career” of the athlete, who obtained second place in the 400 meters flat in Tokyo, according to what was disclosed by the producer Orgullo de Quisqueya and Postopia in a statement.
With years, Paulino “has captured national and international admiration for her commitment, passion, and courage in the face of life’s obstacles”, emphasized Jessica Hasbún, in charge of the production of the feature film along with Kelvin Liria, her husband.
Hasbún shared that her encounter with Marileidy was when this was not yet very known in the sports field, but already “possessed impressive records” and her story moved her “to the deepest”.
“I firmly believe that Marileidy is a symbol of perseverance and determination. Kelvin, my husband, called her ‘Wonder Woman’”, expressed the producer and reporter.
The purpose is “to establish a connection with the audience and achieve that they share the same feeling of pride that we feel towards her”, added Hasbún, while Liria opined that Marileidy Paulino’s biography “has great value for young people and Dominican athletes”.
“Her life and career are worth telling. We are dedicated to delivering a first-class project to the big screen, overcoming numerous challenges with great enthusiasm”, he stated.
The filming of the project, under the direction of Tito Rodríguez, is planned for the final part of this year.
Carrying out the feature film about Marileidy “means more than illustrating a sports story, it’s a tribute to the strength and will of Dominican women”, indicated Rodríguez.
