Colombian presenter Yelitza Cacua, from the Cabrera community, explained on the “Juego de Damas” station how she is after suffering a road accident in July, which forced her to amputate her left leg. The incident occurred on the Malecón, between the Fair and kilometer 12 of Haina, while she was walking in the area.
The crash that changed her life
Cacua described that a vehicle, apparently at high speed, lost control after the rain and crashed into the road divider structure before reaching the area where she was. “It was coming very fast, it had rained, lost control, I was almost on the sidewalk”, she recounted. Upon impact, she fell to the ground and did not immediately understand what was happening, wondering if her life was at risk. An ambulance arrived shortly after, which she considered timely help.
Medical process and decision to amputate
After the accident, Cacua was taken to the Dr. Darío Contreras University Hospital. There, the medical team determined that, due to the complications of the injury, the amputation of the left leg was necessary. The presenter reported that she arrived at the center with very low hemoglobin and that the specialists warned her family about the risks of delaying the procedure. Her brother had tried to find alternatives before the decision was made, but he understood the magnitude of the situation and the urgency of acting.
Cacua remained under medical care for several days before the intervention, where the professionals explained the possible consequences of a prolonged wait. The amputation was carried out successfully and the model is already in the process of recovery.
Legal actions and new personal stage
The communicator indicated that she will present a lawsuit against the involved driver, whom she claims abandoned the scene after the crash. She also revealed that her partner, with whom she had been in a relationship for nine months, decided to end the relationship after accompanying her during part of her hospital recovery.
As a mother of three children, Cacua expressed her desire to return to work and continue forward after the experience, which she described as a moment that changed her life. She made a call to strengthen road education in the Dominican Republic and asked for greater responsibility from drivers and traffic authorities.
