The perimeter fence on the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, planned to be completed in nine months, has been under construction for four years since 2022. The ground-breaking ceremony took place on February 20, 2022, in Dajabón, amidst diplomatic tensions with Haiti and the advance of criminal gangs toward the border. On October 19, 2023, Abinader inaugurated an initial 2.7-kilometer stretch with four watchtowers in Elías Piña. The investment exceeds RD$1.75 billion, destined for an intelligent system that includes 54 kilometers of roads, 19 towers, and 10 access gates.
