Google tries again with the smart glasses and this week unveiled its new Android XR, now powered by Gemini AI and capable of translating live conversations (or at least, that’s what they promise).
The glasses, which connect to the phone and display information on the lens, aim to be more stylish thanks to partnerships with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.
During the demonstration at Google I/O, real-time translation between Farsi, Hindi and English left everyone amazed… Until it failed on stage!.
Despite the stumble, the Mountain View giant assures that these glasses are its biggest leap in years, although it gave no details on price or launch date.
“Equipped with a camera, microphones and speakers, these glasses work together with your phone, allowing you to access your apps without having to dig in your pocket,” the company explained.
These futuristic glasses also feature an “optional screen” inside the lens that provides useful information privately, such as a map or a text message.
Google also noted that it has strived to make these models more stylish, which is why the tech giant collaborates with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker as founding partners for supplying the frames.
Despite the high‑profile launch, the company did not indicate when this model might be released or what it will cost. So far, the cheapest smart glasses from Ray‑Ban and Meta cost about $300.
