The president Luis Abinader headed the delivery of the remodeled facilities of the Club Luperón, in the National District, accompanied by his Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz.
The act marked the reopening of a sports space that had been over two decades without receiving significant attention.
The work, with a cost of over 34.6 million pesos, covers more than 1,200 square meters renovated. With these improvements, the community is returned a worthy scenario for sports practice and family recreation.
To preserve the investment, the Minister Kelvin Cruz took an oath that will be in charge of its vigilance and care.
He also highlighted that the work was a longing of the residents of the Ensanche Luperón and surrounding areas. He remembered that over 22 years had passed since the club had not received interventions of this type, so he qualified the delivery as a day of celebration for the sector.
More projects, more sports
The sports official informed that, in addition to this remodeling, three new multi-purpose projects have already been initiated in different communities. He emphasized the commitment of President Abinader to sports and Dominican youth.
The renovation included the installation of a maple wood backboard certified by FIBA, the construction of bleachers, administrative offices, dressing rooms, and improvements in outdoor areas. The metal structure of the building was also repaired.
The club president, Carlos Báez, thanked the effort of the Gobierno and assured that the new multi-purpose space will be a place where “many illusions will be born” for the young people of the community.
The event was attended by sports figures such as Luisín Mejía, president of Centro Caribe Sports; Garibaldy Bautista, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee; and Rafael Uribe, president of the Basketball Federation. The ceremony was blessed by Father Nelson Acevedo.
The facilities were equipped with modern scoreboards, digital whiteboard, 24-second clock, and new seats for fans. In addition, painting work, asphalt carpet, perimeter closure, and electrical installations were carried out.
With this delivery, the Ensanche Luperón recovers a renovated multi-purpose space, which not only will strengthen sports practice, but also will serve as a community meeting point to promote social integration and youth development.
