The Olympic medalist Luisito Pie was elected president of the Athletes Commission of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), during the elections held this morning in the Juan Ulises García Saleta hall of the Olympic organization.
With 82 votes, Pie, who won the bronze medal in taekwondo at the 2016 Rio Olympics, was the most voted candidate among the seven aspirants who participated in this historic process for the national sports movement.
Along with Pie, also selected as members of the commission were Camil Domínguez (volleyball) as vice president, with 54 votes, Beatriz Pirón (weightlifting), with 41 votes and Frandiel Gómez (diving), with 37 votes.
The executive committee of the COD will be responsible for choosing the fifth member of the commission.
A message of commitment to the athletes
When being sworn in by the electoral commission, headed by Maritza Ortiz, Pie thanked the support received and committed to representing the interests of Dominican athletes.
“Thank you for the vote of confidence. We will work to ensure the respect of your rights and that your voices are heard”, he expressed.
Luisito Pie also clarified that his management will not respond to federative interests, and highlighted the dynamism and transparency of the electoral process, organized by Irina Pérez, Miguel Rivera and José Mera.
COD and its support for the athletes
Before the start of the process, the president of the COD, engineer Garibaldy Bautista, highlighted the importance of the event and the commitment of the organization with its athletes.
“With this process we fulfill a requirement of the International Olympic Committee and Panam Sports. We will always be willing to support sports and our athletes”, he emphasized.
Participation and final results
A total of 104 athletes voted out of the 535 registered on the electoral roll.
In addition to the four elected, also participated Johanna Pimentel (handball), with 26 votes, Yúnior Alcántara (boxing) with 9 votes, Félix Hermida (shotgun) with 6 votes and there was one null vote.
