The superstar of Major Leagues, Juan Soto, current outfielder for the New York Mets, received this Friday with enthusiasm the Dominican Republic U12 National Baseball Team, which is in the city as part of its preparation for the WBSC U12 World Cup, to be held in Taiwan.
The emotional encounter took place at Citi Field, prior to the game between the Mets and the Cincinnati Reds. There, Soto, 2019 World Series Champion, shared with the young players, who lived an unforgettable experience by meeting one of their great references in professional baseball.
The day had a moment even more special during the game: Juan Soto hit a home run and, as he crossed the plate, pointed with pride to the stands, where the members of the Dominican Republic U12 team were, in a gesture of motivation and support to the new generations of national baseball.
Heading to Taiwan with the country’s support
The U12 team is in New York playing exhibition games against the Dominican Republic Baseball Association of New York, as part of its preparation for the international tournament. The team will travel to Taiwan on July 23, and its debut will be on July 25 against the Czech Republic team, at the Asia Pacific International Baseball Stadium and Training Center (ASPAC).
Several of the players who make up this team also formed part of the team that was crowned champion in the Caribbean Kids Series, held recently, demonstrating thus the potential and talent in development of Dominican youth baseball.
National support and exclusive broadcast
The tournament can be seen in the Dominican Republic through VTV Canal 32, the official channel of the WBSC U12 World Cup, thanks to a strategic alliance between the Panorama Media Group and the Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom). This collaboration seeks to strengthen the visibility of youth and junior baseball, and accompany the growth of future stars of the sport.
With his usual charisma and sense of belonging, Juan Soto reaffirmed his commitment to Dominican baseball, wishing success to the children and encouraging them to give their best in their participation in the world championship: “Take the heart of this country with every pitch and every swing”, he would have expressed in his brief but significant chat with them.
