The European Commission has announced the designation of ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox as very large digital platforms, which will subject them to stricter transparency, safety and user protection requirements under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This measure, published on Monday, sets a four‑month deadline for the three services to adapt to the new obligations, expiring at the end of November.

Brussels classifies ChatGPT as a very large online search engine, while Reddit and Roblox are given the title of very large online platform. Each exceeds 45 million monthly users in the European Union, a condition that justifies additional oversight. With this decision, the three join the same group of platforms that must meet the special obligations defined by European regulations.

The rules require greater transparency about the services’ internal functioning, as well as rigorous management of associated risks, such as the spread of illegal content, child protection and public safety.
