In Santo Domingo Oeste, Erick Daniel Cordero Guzmán’s family continues their search for clues that explain the whereabouts of the 24-year-old accounting graduate and lender who disappeared on August 17, 2021, after leaving his home in Buenos Aires de Herrera.
The Day of the Disappearance
According to Ana Luisa Guzmán Herrera, Erick’s mother, the young man was preparing food when he received a call that made him leave the house. He asked his mother to save the food, as he planned to return soon, but he has not been seen since.
First Indications and Clues
The family contacted Erick’s friends and his girlfriend, without obtaining information about his location. A point of greater concern was the 2014 Kia Sportage that, according to records, was incinerated in Batey Palavé.
Reviews of security cameras showed Erick picking up two people at kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway before losing them. Additionally, money movements were detected at kilometer 17, supposedly made by third parties.
Participation of the Authorities
Ana Luisa handed over Erick’s laptop to the police, which was recovered without the stored data. The maternal grandmother, Bienvenida Herrera, remembered a call that she interpreted as a warning the night before the disappearance. Approximately eight months later, the authorities informed them of the location of human remains near where the vehicle was found.
National Context of Disappearances
From 2018 to July 2026, the National Registry counted 4,171 missing persons, of which 241 remained unresolved. In the first seven months of 2026, 375 cases were registered (257 men and 118 women). The government enacted Law 25-26, creating the National System “Alertas RD” to facilitate the dissemination of information and expedite responses.
Claim of the Association of Relatives
The Dominican Association of Relatives of the Disappeared (Asodofade) maintains that the system does not work fully and demands a more effective institutional follow-up. Erick’s mother, with the hope of clarifying the case, continues to request more attention to the collected clues.
