Dominican authorities are investigating the case of Albert de Jesús Aracena, whose body was found dead and later buried secretly. According to statements from the Public Ministry representative, Yorelbin Rivas, the people involved claim to have found Aracena drowned and, fearing the business would be affected, decided to move and bury him in secret. However, this version has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
The investigation aims to determine the cause of Aracena’s death, for which the preliminary report of the autopsy performed by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) is expected. The study will help establish whether the person died from drowning or presents some type of trauma that can modify the investigative line. Although drowning is confirmed, it will still be necessary to determine if it occurred accidentally or was caused by another person.
A Haitian worker would have participated, along with another person, in the transfer of Aracena’s body, according to the information managed by the investigators. The participation and responsibilities of each person must be determined through the corresponding investigation. So far, no one involved has been judicially established as guilty.
The transfer and subsequent burial of Aracena are part of the elements that the Public Ministry seeks to clarify to determine what happened and what legal consequences may arise. The legal classification will depend on the results of the investigation and, especially, on the medical-legal conclusions. If it is established that the person was deprived of life intentionally, the authorities must determine the applicable legal figure from the evidence obtained.
For now, the case remains under investigation, and the authorities are waiting for the preliminary results of INACIF to advance in the determination of what happened and establish the corresponding responsibilities.
