The Association of Sports Journalists of Santo Domingo (ACDSD) announced the 2026 edition of its traditional awards gala “Excelencia Acedeísta, Sports Journalists and Athletes of the Year”, which will take place on Tuesday, August 15, starting at 12:00 pm in the La Mancha salon of the Barceló Hotel, former Lina.
Awards to the most veteran sports journalists
According to the president of the ACD, Américo Celado S., the ceremony will award prizes to eight sports journalists and eight athletes for their performance in 2025. Among the honored sports journalists, the Executive Council of the ACD decided to award Osvaldo Rodríguez Suncar, Gustavo Rodríguez Diloné and José P. Monegro. The two last, Rodríguez Suncar and Rodríguez Diloné, will be distinguished for having exercised sports journalism for more than forty years without interruption.
Athletes on the list of excellence
The complete list of athletes will be revealed on the day of the gala. The ACD emphasized that the selection is based on a rigorous evaluation of the results, dedication and impact of each competitor in their discipline during the year 2025.
A tradition with more than ninety years
Founded on March 9, 1929, the ACD maintains this award as part of its activities of recognition to professionals of sports journalism and athletes. In 2026, the gala will also feature the participation of master Ramón Orlando Valoy, who will celebrate his 50th anniversary in popular art.
