LA ALTAGRACIA. The La Altagracia Province Basketball Association (ABAPA) announced on Monday that the 49th edition of the Altagracia Superior Basketball Tournament (TBS Higüey) will be dedicated to Eduardo Sanz Lovatón (Yayo), the Director General of Customs (DGA), and will feature six teams.
Jorge Tavárez, ABAPA president, emphasized that the tournament is dedicated to the Customs Director, Yayo Sanz Lovatón, in acknowledgment of his significant commitment to Dominican sports and the well-being of communities nationwide.
Tavárez announced that the TBS 2024 in La Altagracia is scheduled to begin on Sunday, November 24, continuing a tradition that brings together the people of Higüey under the slogan “No Christmas without Basketball”.
These details were shared by Tavárez during a press conference held this Monday at the Wendy’s restaurant in Higüey, with the presence of key local authorities and notable personalities from the sports, political, and community sectors.
Organizing Committee
Alongside Tavárez, the provincial senator, Dr. Rafael B. Duluc (Cholitín), who also presides over the Organizing Committee (CO), was present; the municipal mayor, Karina Aristy, vice president; deputy Onabel Aristy, Iván Güilamo, and Manuel de León, president of the La Altagracia Province Sports Union.
Clubs
Tavárez and Duluc highlighted the participation of six traditional clubs: Savica, the champion of the last edition, the runner-up Antonio Guzmán, Centro, Cambelén, San José, and San Francisco, all competing for the Grupo Puntacana Cup.

“Dedicating the tournament to Yayo Lovatón is a gesture that honors his career and invaluable contribution to basketball and the country,” stated Senator Duluc.
He also underscored the essential support of President Luis Abinader and Grupo Punta Cana, who have been key pillars in the event’s realization.
