Dominicano Esteury Ruiz, líder en robos de la L.A. 2023, se une a los Dodgers en un cambio

Los Angeles Dodgers incorporated on Wednesday the agile dominican outfielder Esteury Ruiz, who was the top base stealer in the American League in the 2023 season, from the Athletics. In exchange, the Dodgers gave up the right-handed Nicaraguan pitcher Carlos Durán.

Ruiz, 26 years old, achieved an impressive total of 67 bases stolen last year, being the main base stealer in the American League.

Despite promising statistics, he faced some challenges, including a left wrist strain injury that caused an absence and a stint in the minor leagues. After being designated for assignment by the Athletics last Sunday, he could be transferred to Los Angeles.

In his three years of career in the major leagues, Ruiz has added 73 steals in 245 games playing for Athletics, San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers.

While his ability to steal bases stands out, he has been caught 19 times. His speed and defensive skills make him a constant threat on the bases.

On the other hand, Carlos Durán, 23 years old, showed a notable performance in the minor leagues last season with a 3.71 ERA across three levels within the Dodgers’ system.

In his most recent start for Triple-A Oklahoma City this year, he pitched 4.1 innings, giving up only one run and recording eight strikeouts.

This trade moves Ruiz to an organization with a history of success, including a World Series win last year, with the expectation that his speed and defensive skills will potentially enhance the Dodgers’ lineup for the 2025 season.
