Angelita Trujillo, as she is mostly known, is the product of the third marriage of the Dominican dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina and María Martínez de Trujillo. Her full name is María De Los Ángeles del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Trujillo Martínez; born in June 1939, she is an important figure in the Dominican Republic as she was a renowned Dominican writer, and as others remember her for being the daughter of Rafael Trujillo, a dictator of the Dominican Republic.
Angelita Trujillo: A walk through her life
Angelita Trujillo’s childhood was very privileged. She studied in Santo Domingo in a congregation of Canadian nuns. Among the activities that had the most impact on her life was the day the Dominican government sent her to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom in 1953.
Following that, the Fair for the Peace and Fraternity of the Free World event was prepared, in which, at only 16 years of age, Angelita Trujillo was crowned as Queen of said event.
After her father’s death in 1961, members of the Trujillo family sought exile in Paris, then in Spain, countries where they lived their lives, but a large part of Angelita Trujillo’s life was spent residing in Miami, Florida, where she passed away on August 21, 2023, at the age of 84.
