There will be no ads on the console, it was a mistake

· 2 min de lectura

The topic that dominated conversations yesterday was the appearance of ads inside games for PS5. Contrary to displaying game art or action scenes, these started showing ads, some even for past news. This caused a negative backlash in the community, which interpreted this change as a sign that the PS5 was about to become a platform full of advertising.

Sony has addressed these concerns, confirming that what happened was a bug in the news system and that it has no plans to replace game art with advertising ads, YouTube videos, or any other type of promotional content. Although it is true that some games have historically included related advertising, such as certain Call of Duty or FC24 content, this has never been so intrusive and has always been kept limited to the promotion of DLCs, new seasons, or store additions.

Generally, if a game is compatible with PS5 cards, it’s normal for the dashboard to display relevant information from the latest gaming session. That’s why the insertion of ads caused such an uproar in the community, especially when compared to Xbox, which in some areas shows fast food ads, although these are usually related to game promotions.

It was a mistake and your PS5 should now display the content correctly

This was what the PS5 dashboard looked like after the bug:

As mentioned, Sony has confirmed that what happened was an error, and that the Dashboard should now return to its traditional presentation, without including advertising or thematic content unrelated to the developer:

A technical glitch with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has been corrected. There have been no modifications to the way game news is displayed on PS5.

Additionally, if you reside in a region where it is available, the new Dashboard customization feature was launched a few weeks ago, allowing you to quickly access most console functions from a single place.
