The largest contract in NBA history is on the horizon.
On Monday, Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics agreed to a five-year supermax extension valued at $314 million, which includes a player option, according to multiple sources.

This new deal exceeds the contract of his teammate Jaylen Brown, who secured a five-year, $304 million deal before the start of last season.

Tatum qualified for the supermax after being selected to the 2023-24 All-NBA team. The 26-year-old player was chosen for the All-NBA First Team last year (for the second consecutive year), which will allow him to earn up to 35% of the salary cap starting from the 2025-26 season.

Tatum and Brown have been fundamental in Boston capturing their eighteenth championship this season, keeping the key figures of the Celtics prepared for future title runs.
Tatum’s contract runs through the 2029-30 season.

He contributed to Boston achieving an impressive 64-18 record in the 2023-24 season, being practically favorites from start to finish to take home the Larry O’Brien trophy.

Tatum, selected third overall in the 2017 draft, shone especially during the playoffs, averaging 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists in 19 games.

The Celtics also extended a four-year, $125.9 million max contract to Derrick White, practically doubling his average annual salary.

Despite the team’s tremendous success, there is one person who appears ready to step down from their position: Wyc Grousbeck.
