Artist María Becerra, known as ‘La Nena de Argentina’, has made the decision to distance herself from social media after stating that they have caused her everything from intense crying spells to anxiety and panic due to the “thousands of offensive things” said about her.
Through an extensive post recently made on her X account, the singer originally from Quilmes (Buenos Aires province) said goodbye to her followers on that platform and announced that a “trusted person” will be in charge of handling her Instagram account, since she will only resume using her mobile phone when she feels “capable of doing so”.
“Until now it has only generated anxiety and panic in me,” she stated.
‘La Nena de Argentina’, who is currently touring several European countries, shared that on said tour she has “hardly” battled with her mental health, facing episodes of crying, anxiety, and panic.
“It consists of waking up every day and finding thousands of offensive comments regarding / My private life, my clothing preferences as if it were a crime and I deserved the worst, when it is simply MY STYLE (sic) of dressing. They criticize my physical appearance daily, for everything!” expressed María de los Ángeles Becerra, widely known as María Becerra.
Although she admitted that “this is part of fame”, this multifaceted actress considered it “unacceptable” to be the target of insults through network messages and affirmed her intention to “detox”.
“I do not plan to continue tolerating this situation because it affects me A LOT (sic),” stated Becerra, who expressed her refusal to continue with a masochistic attitude on a social network that only brings her bad moments.
Established as a media figure in her nation after achieving fame as a ‘youtuber’ on a channel where she combined monologues, covers of songs by other artists with makeup tutorials and stories of her vacation experiences, and dedicated to her musical career since, Becerra has released singles with artists of the caliber of Rauw Alejandro, Becky G, Camila Cabello, Lola Índigo, J. Balvin, and Pablo Alborán.
Her most recent collaboration was with Mexican singer Gloria Trevi: the track ‘Borracha’, a preview of ‘La Nena’s’ upcoming album which includes a music video filmed in Monterrey, set in a Mexican condominium environment and a typical cantina, a setting in which both perform the song to forget an infidelity.
