From an apartment closet to a physical store in Boston: that is the journey of Baní-born entrepreneur Katherine Peralta, founder of Sarai Clothing, a fashion brand that now has over 44,000 followers and is beginning to distribute its products in the Dominican Republic.
Seventeen years of hard work before the first store
Peralta arrived in the United States 17 years ago, seven months pregnant with her first child, in search of better opportunities for her family. Her first years in the country were marked by long shifts in coffee shops, restaurants, and cleaning and transportation jobs, while she completed her high school education, took English classes, and progressed through her citizenship process.
She inherited her interest in business from her mother, whom she watched buy and resell merchandise from childhood. Years later, a conversation with her sister—already active in online sales—finally convinced her to launch into the sector that had always caught her attention: fashion.
From the living room to an expanding brand
Sarai Clothing was born in November 2021, named in honor of Peralta’s youngest daughter. The project started literally in a closet, but the increase in orders forced her to also take over the apartment’s living room. Supported by social media and the recommendations of her own clients, the brand built a community that in March 2026 allowed her to open her first physical store in Boston.
With her sights set on the Dominican Republic
At 37 years old and as a mother of three, Peralta attributes much of her success to perseverance and faith. Her brand already ships products to Dominican soil, a market she considers special as it was the starting point of the business vision she now leads from Massachusetts.
