The renowned Colombian artist J Balvin ventures into film for the first time, sharing the bill with Sean Astin and Stephen Amell in the drug-themed drama ‘Little Lorraine’, directed by Andy Hines.
This announcement was initially made by the prestigious magazine Variety, which also revealed that filming took place in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and Ontario, featuring the participation of Stephen Amell and Sean Astin in leading roles.
The production, carried out by Wango Films from Canada, marks J Balvin’s acting debut, despite having previously contributed to the soundtracks of several films, including ‘Fast and Furious 7 and 8’ (2015 and 2017, respectively), ‘Spy Game’ and ‘Bad Boys for Life’, both released in 2020.
J Balvin, also known as the ‘king of reggaeton’, will work under the direction of Canadian filmmaker Andy Hines, who has previously directed music videos for the singer, highlighting their collaboration in 2018 with ‘Redefining Mainstream (Artist Spotlight Story)’ and ‘Now’ in 2019, with Hines also being the scriptwriter of the project.
The plot of the film, according to the renowned page IMDB, is based on real events that took place in the 1980s in Little Lorraine, a small coastal village in the North Atlantic. The community of just 60 inhabitants was involved in an international cocaine smuggling operation, which used coffins and a network of funeral homes for distribution.
The cast is completed with the participation of Stephen McHattie, Auden Thornton, Matt Walsh, Rhys Darby, Josh Close, Steve Lund and Sugar Lyn Beard.
José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, born in Medellín, Colombia, in 1985 and better known as J Balvin, stands out as one of the most successful Latin artists globally, with sales of thirty-five million between albums and singles. With hits that have reached the top spots on various music charts, including Billboard, Balvin begins his acting career with this Canadian project, anticipating his release for 2025.
