Los Angeles.- The arrival of the Olympic flag in Los Angeles on Monday marks the start of the countdown to 2028, the year the city will host the Olympics for the third time.
Mayor Karen Bass, upon receiving the Olympic flag adorned with the five Olympic rings at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), proudly waved it along with U.S. athletes. This action was taken after officially accepting the city’s role as the next Olympic host during the closing ceremony of the Paris Games on Sunday.
“The Olympics have officially returned to Los Angeles,” announced Bass, expressing her emotion and the city’s commitment to organizing a memorable event like Paris,”
The city leader recently announced that one of the main goals will be the expansion of the public transportation network, with the vision of hosting car-free Games.
Los Angeles faces the challenge of addressing the homeless crisis, with over 75,000 individuals living on the streets according to the latest data from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority.
Los Angeles is preparing to become the third city in the world to host the Olympics for the third time, following the events of 1932 and 1984.
After concluding the Paris 2024 Games, the United States led the medal count with a total of 126 medals, including 40 gold medals, a number matched by China, the second country with the most awards in these games (91).
