The Mauricio Báez team secured their spot in the semifinals of the Superior Basketball Tournament of the National District after finishing the regular series with a record of 8-2.
The record achieved by the team from Villa Juana allows them to enter the elimination phase, with the best win-loss record among the six teams looking to advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinal phase, each team will play three games. The qualifiers from group A will face those from group B.
Mathematically, the Mauricians secured one of the four semifinal spots, since Bameso and San Carlos enter the elimination phase with a record of 7-3 and would need at least one more victory to make it into the semifinal series.
On the other hand, Rafael Barias and Huellas del Siglo, with records of 5-5, could sneak into the semifinals by winning at least two of the three games to be played.
San Lázaro, which finished the regular season with a 4-6 record, carries the heaviest burden, as they need to remain undefeated in the elimination phase to have a chance of advancing.

Relentless
Prior to the start of the elimination phase, the Mauricians exhibited their relentless side by defeating El Millón Yireh 120 to 97, in a game where Luismal Ferreiras, Gerardo Suero, and Jhery Matos combined for 70 points.
Ferreiras contributed a double-double of 26 points and 19 rebounds, Suero finished with 24 points and 5 assists, while Matos added 20 points.
The performance put forth by the Mauricians on Sunday evening is yet another testament to their collective gameplay throughout the season, not solely relying on Gerardo’s baskets.
“Mauricio Báez has too many weapons,” stated the captain of the nine-time champions, the one known as Super Suero.
The player emphasized the team effort throughout the tournament, remarking that “Mauricio Báez is not a one-man team, it’s a family”. He pointed out that what matters most is always securing the victory and improving for the upcoming matches.
Note
On his return to the superior

After a try out with the Capitanes de Ciudad de México team, a G-League team of the NBA, Richard Bautista scored 12 points and 9 assists coming off the bench for Mauricio Báez. “It was a good experience, now I’ll wait for the call to see if I made the team”.
