A delegation of 15 students from Cathedral Community School successfully participated in the 52nd edition of the Yale Model United Nations (YMUN LII), held in New Haven, Connecticut, from January 14 to 19, 2026. This event, one of the most prestigious in youth diplomacy, annually gathers thousands of participants from around the world to simulate UN debates.
Recognition as Best Delegation
The group, representing the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Latin American Parliament (LAP) committee, won the Best Delegation award. They stood out for their academic preparation, mastery of parliamentary procedures, and negotiation skills. Global issues such as regional conflicts and international cooperation were the focus of their interventions.

Rocío Calderón De Los Santos led the effort with diplomatic excellence. The delegation included Erickson Caba, Fabián Villa, Gabriel Ramos, Javier Jáquez, José Armando Pezzotti, Katia Rodríguez, Kiara Vargas, María Holguín, María del Carmen Echevarría, Robert Medina, Sabryna Every, Jean Luis Liriano, Shenoa Romero, and Juliette Hernández. Under the coordination of Martha De Marchena, they interacted with delegates from diverse nations.

Founded in 1974 by Yale University, the Yale Model United Nations attracts more than 3,000 high school students from 50 countries. In its 52nd edition, it addressed climate crises, migration, and international security. This forum fosters leadership and critical thinking, with committees like LAP simulating real parliaments. Historically, it has propelled careers in diplomacy; alumni include future global leaders.
