The woman found on the Duarte Highway during the early hours of Tuesday was identified as Gladys Marlenis Almonte, 29 years old, resident of Sabaneta, La Vega. The National Police reported that the investigations point to a possible road incident, although the case continues under evaluation. Almonte lost her life in the Guaco–La Vega area, where different versions of the circumstances leading up to the event had emerged.

Among the circulating versions was the information that supposedly she had left a nearby cabin asking for help. However, the spokesperson for the National Police in La Vega explained that the diligences carried out up to the moment do not support that version. The investigations established preliminarily that Gladys Marlenis would have arrived at the facilities of the Cola Real company, where she knocked insistently on a door.

According to the statements offered to the investigators by members of the security of the company, upon observing that the young woman was without clothing, they proceeded to communicate with the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1. The version collected by the authorities indicates that approximately five minutes later the event occurred that is currently being investigated. The Police also pointed out that the cabin closest to the place where the young woman was found is more than a kilometer away.

For that reason, the investigators currently rule out that she had left that establishment, as had been commented initially. Relatives provided information to the authorities, including details about Almonte’s health condition. The young woman was receiving treatment for a mental health condition and had had previous episodes in which she left her home and walked to different places.

The body of Gladys Marlenis Almonte will be sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), where the corresponding autopsy will be performed to establish with greater precision the causes and provide new elements to the investigations. The National Police and the Public Ministry will continue with the interviews, review of evidence, and other necessary diligences before offering a definitive conclusion on what happened.
