The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the first university in the Americas, is launching virtual diploma courses aimed at the Dominican diaspora in the United States, Europe, and other regions. Coordinated by the New York office and the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, these programs respond to the demands for continuous professional training.

Professor Ileana Ramírez Portorreal, coordinator of Continuing Education for abroad, emphasizes UASD’s commitment to strong academic ties. “We reaffirm our commitment to strengthening academic ties with the Dominican community abroad,” she stated. Founded in 1538, UASD has extended its historical reach beyond borders, serving approximately 2.5 million Dominicans living abroad, according to Central Bank data.

Programs available in virtual diploma courses

  • Diploma in Foreign Trade and Customs Operations: Sundays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 80 hours.
  • Diploma in Senior Management: Sundays, same schedule, 64 hours.
  • Diploma in Business Strategies and Digital Marketing: Saturdays, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., 60 hours.

These virtual diploma courses are taught 100% online, with real-time classes, updated materials, and direct interaction with expert faculty. Each grants a certificate endorsed by UASD, ensuring immediate professional value in key areas such as trade and management.

Context and relevance for the Dominican diaspora

This initiative arises in response to the growing need for professional upgrading among migrant Dominicans. In New York, the epicenter of the community with more than 700,000 residents, these programs facilitate development without travel. Ramírez highlights content adapted to local realities, promoting inclusion and social transformation, which are historical values of UASD.
