Insólito turno de Manny Machado: Dos errores en el mismo turno y culmina con jonrón de 400 pies

By Raúl Germán Bautista.- An unusual event occurred in the Major Leagues with the standout third baseman of the San Diego Padres, Manny Machado, starring in an atypical play on Tuesday, April 15, in the game against the Chicago Cubs.

Facing Japanese pitcher Shota Imanaga, Machado hit a foul ball to the right field on the first pitch. The ball was mishandled by Kyle Tucker, who failed to catch the ball despite having it under control.

Machado’s turn continued and on the fourth pitch, he sent a fly ball that seemed easy for the catcher, but third baseman Gage Workman intervened and also lost the ball, marking the second error of the play.

After two failures by the Chicago defense, Machado did not let the ninth pitch of Imanaga —a 92-mph straight fastball— slip away, achieving a home run to the left field, with a distance of 400 feet and an exit velocity of 105.8 mph.

The official scorer recorded both errors, so the run was classified as “dirty”, which means it had no negative impact on the pitcher’s effectiveness.

Despite these errors, the Padres lost to Chicago, but the game extended to 10 innings.
