BOCA CHICA.- Robel García describes his victory with Licey as something “different” and exceptionally special. The Dominican infielder is preparing with a clear focus on his role to help repeat the achievement of being champions.
“It was incredible. Winning with Licey has a different feel than with any other organization. Now, I have one championship with the Águilas and another with Licey. This fills me with pride and I am very grateful to Audo for the opportunity he has given me,” said the player.
García joined the back-to-back champions’ training camp last Thursday, following a remarkable season in the Venezuelan Major League. He recorded a .303 batting average, hit seven homers, drove in 24 runs, and drew 21 walks in 125 at-bats.
“The level in Venezuela is quite high. I am grateful to be able to play on a competitive team like Delfines.
I played as a shortstop; solid preparation is required to play that position, and I prepared properly. The adaptation was easy, the food is very similar to the Dominican food, with the exception of the cachapa,” he commented.
The 31-year-old athlete appreciates the youth and dynamism that the team brings, from the manager to a wide range of players.
“Experience is essential, and Gilbert is a young man who already has some of it. He brings that spark typical of youth that aspires to move forward and injects that energy into the team. It wouldn’t be the same with a much more veteran manager, who would perhaps take things easier,” he noted.
“I have observed many rookies loaded with that positive energy. I remember my days when I attended training camps surrounded by veterans, always wanting to impress. These youngsters (among whom Cristian Hernández and Starlyn Caba stand out) are doing very well, they possess great talent and truly positive energy,” he highlighted.
The native of Las Matas de Farfán concludes with a message for all Tigres del Licey fans: “May they continue to give us their support. We arrive with the same energy, the same desire to be champions. I will be prepared to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way, that is my mission, to contribute to the team in everything I can.”
