In 2025, the Dominican Republic’s mining sector solidified its position as a key driver of the national economy. According to the report presented by the Dominican Mining and Oil Chamber (CAMIPE), the mining sector contributed RD$220 million for social projects and generated more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs throughout the country.

Social investments and free medical assistance

In its latest report, CAMIPE detailed that the social investment of the mining sector made it possible to provide more than 10,000 free medical consultations in communities near extraction operations. In addition, 140 rural families gained access to housing improvements thanks to direct support programs promoted by the mining sector itself. These data reflect a strategy focused on human well-being and community strengthening that goes beyond the traditional fiscal contribution of the mining industry.

Technical education and professional opportunities

One of the strongest pillars of the mining sector‘s legacy in 2025 was investment in education and training. The funding of 1,200 university scholarships and 1,700 technical training programs allowed more than 8,100 young people to train in essential careers and trades. The Technical Education Business Initiative, promoted in collaboration with CAMIPE, has been decisive in ensuring formal, well-paying jobs that respond to the current needs of the mining industry and the national economy.

Environmental commitment and ecosystem restoration

During 2025, the mining sector reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability. Its main achievements include the planting of more than 70,000 trees, the execution of watershed protection programs, and environmental restoration projects in areas such as the San Juan River and the Sabaneta province. CAMIPE emphasized that responsible mining requires long-term planning and a guarantee of ecological restoration after mining exploitation, including secured funding for closure plans.

Economic impact and the importance of the regulatory framework

The economic results highlight the strategic relevance of the mining sector: in the first half of 2025, this sector contributed more than RD$25 billion to the treasury through exports that accounted for 51.9% of national sales, with reinvestment exceeding US$420 million and reflecting historic growth of 440%. CAMIPE Executive Director Martín Valerio urged the approval of a new regulatory framework, pointing out the need for clear rules, transparency, and a better distribution of the 5% municipal tax paid by mining companies, always in pursuit of economic and environmental balance, administrative excellence, legal certainty, and social well-being.

Responsible mining and community transformation

For the Dominican Republic, the mining sector represents not only exports and employment, but also a catalyst for social transformation and sustainable development. President Pedro Esteva emphasized this: true wealth lies in improving the lives of communities and in the future being built for new generations. In 2025, the mining sector reaffirms its commitment to driving economic growth without compromising the natural environment, guaranteeing lasting benefits for the country.
