The Dominican Republic has received an additional allocation of 11,931 metric tons in its raw cane sugar export quota to the U.S. market, raising its total allocation to 201,274 tons for fiscal year 2027. This decision, published in the United States Federal Register, stems from the redistribution of 55,993 tons that Washington withdrew from Brazil’s allocation. The Dominican Republic received 21% of this redistributed quota, the largest share granted to a single country.

Foreign Minister Victor -Ito- Bisonó said that this decision is a sign of the confidence that has been built as a serious and reliable trade partner. He assured that diplomacy serves national production and that this outcome translates into jobs, foreign exchange, and opportunities for families who earn a living from cane in the country.

With this adjustment, the Dominican Republic moves from concentrating 16.9% to 18% of the total sugar quota that the United States opens to foreign suppliers, set at 1,117,195 tons. It remains the largest individual beneficiary of this mechanism, which allows Dominican sugar to enter the U.S. market with a preferential tariff.

The new quantities can be exported starting October 1, 2026, at the beginning of the U.S. fiscal year. The official pledged to monitor, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, national authorities and the productive sector, the full utilization of the allocated quota.
