Dodgers icon Shohei Ohtani shared the happy news of the birth of his first daughter with his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, through an emotional post on his Instagram account.
The post featured an adorable photo of their newborn daughter’s feet alongside an image of Decoy, the family’s beloved dog. Ohtani expressed his gratitude by saying, “I am deeply grateful to my loving wife for bringing our beautiful and healthy daughter into the world,” and added, “To our daughter, thank you for making us extremely excited and somewhat nervous parents.”
To be with his wife during the delivery, Ohtani stayed in Southern California. The athlete was placed on the paternity list before Friday’s game, allowing the Dodgers to secure a 3-0 victory over the Rangers. The paternity list allows players to step away from the team for up to three days, but Ohtani has the option to move to the restricted list if he needs more time with his family.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts hinted that Ohtani could rejoin the team for the final game of the series against Texas on Sunday. If not, his return is expected for the two-game series against the Cubs in Chicago, which begins this coming Tuesday.
