In the early morning of August 24, Fran Andrés Santana, a 69-year-old resident of Sabana Grande de Boyá, Monte Plata, left his home with a destination to Santo Domingo to perform personal errands. The last image that shows him was left in a commercial area of the Máximo Gómez Avenue, where he entered a business and used the bathroom before leaving.
According to security cameras, Santana boarded a guagua with a direction to the capital and arrived at the Duarte Avenue with Manuela Díez. That was the last location where his presence was visually recorded. Six days later, a search brigade went to the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital and received information that the man had been treated in the emergency area on September 1 during a period estimated to be two to four hours.
Family and authorities in search of clues
The relatives, who describe Santana as an evangelical Christian and a man dedicated to his community, initiated the search when the man did not return home. For several days, they placed notices, walked the area, and visited various medical centers in search of information.
The Department of Criminal Investigations (DICRIM) requested the health institution to publish the recordings of his entry and exit, but to date, the requested records have not been published. On September 15, the family and the community concentrated in front of the National Palace to demand advances in the investigation.
Context of the case and possible lines of investigation
Santana worked at the Caminando Juntos with Jesus Foundation, where he managed data. The investigators are also verifying the people he may have interacted with before his disappearance, although so far, only one person related to public transportation has been interviewed.
The family continues to request answers and hopes that the authorities will clarify what happened from the last moment he was seen until the present date.
