Ronny Mauricio gana terreno en el competitivo cuadro interior de los Mets

By Raúl Germán Bautista.- Ronny Mauricio has begun to leave his mark in the competitive Mets’ infield, solidifying himself as a strong option for the team after overcoming a long absence in the 2023 season.

Mauricio missed the entire previous season due to an injury, which affected his development and delayed his opportunities to establish himself in the Major Leagues. However, the current situation has been favorable for him to earn a spot. His triple on Tuesday tied the game at one run, in the sixth inning, between his team and the Orioles.

Mark Vientos established himself last year between third and first base, connecting 27 home runs in 111 games. This year, his performance has not been the same. Brett Baty has not been able to hit and has not established himself. Jeff McNeil, who plays a solid second base and has a Major League bat, is a daily player. Luis Ángel Acuña was taken out of the equation and sent to minor leagues. Given this context, Mauricio is taking advantage of his opportunity.

In 19 games of rehabilitation in minor leagues, he averaged .323 with an OPS of .892. Then, in his passage through Triple-A Syracuse, he hit .515 in just nine games, with three home runs and an OPS of 1.382. Now in the Majors, he has accumulated 82 plate appearances with a .244 average and four home runs. In the last seven games, his bat has been on fire: .300 average, .417 on-base percentage, and a slugging percentage of .500.

A notable moment of the season occurred against the Rockies at Coors Field, where he hit a 456-foot home run, one of the longest in MLB in 2025. The ball was hit out of the park at 110.3 miles per hour, landing on the second level of the stadium, making it the longest home run by a Mets player this year.

Mauricio, who arrived as one of the organization’s most promising prospects, seems ready to compete for a spot in the New York team’s daily lineup.
