PlayStation Accessories for Windows: customize your PS5 controller

· 3 min de lectura

Although the PlayStation 5 is a very popular console, it also offers support for PC gamers. This is evident in the fact that several of its exclusive titles can be played on Windows. For some time now, it has been feasible to use its DualSense controller on a PC, either with or without a cable connection. Now, Sony makes this process even easier by launching the PlayStation Accessories application, designed to manage and customize your PS5 controller when using it on PC.

Until now, connecting the PlayStation controller to a Windows PC only required pairing them via Bluetooth. However, customizing your gaming experience required using third-party software. Now, with the arrival of the official application, anyone wanting to make the most of the features of their DualSense and DualSense Edge controller on Windows can easily do so.

This way, you can not only connect your PS5 controller to your PC, but also adjust its performance, sensitivity, button and trigger configurations, and even update the firmware of the DualSense. We will explore what else this application can offer and its features.

What the PlayStation Accessories app is

The PlayStation Accessories app helps you set up your DualSense Edge controller from Windows

Compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11, the PlayStation Accessories app was announced by Sony on its official PlayStation account. Although it previously existed, the software has been updated with a name change and the addition of new features for those who enjoy Windows games using PlayStation DualSense or DualSense Edge controllers.

According to Sony, this application allows you to “update the controller firmware and fully customize the wireless DualSense Edge from your PC.” The way to connect the controller to your PC remains the same, with the option to choose between a USB or Bluetooth connection. Once connected, the app lets you make the necessary modifications, such as updating its firmware or customizing its behavior.

Unfortunately, there are details to consider. With a DualSense Edge controller, you will be able to make the most of the PlayStation Accessories app. However, for standard DualSense controllers, only firmware updates will be available. This is indicated on the official application page. Remember that the DualSense is the standard PlayStation 5 model, while the more expensive DualSense Edge is an advanced version that offers superior performance due to being more robust.

What this new application is for

As we have seen, with the PlayStation Accessories app you can update the firmware of your PS5 controllers from your PC, in addition to viewing their charge level. And if you own a DualSense Edge, the application allows you to do even more. You can “customize button and thumbstick settings” and save them in personal profiles. You can create up to four profiles, which are stored directly on the controller, allowing you to use them even on other computers or mobile devices.

The configurable settings in the app include:

Button assignments
Thumbstick sensitivity
Trigger dead zone
Vibration intensity and trigger effect

The PlayStation Accessories app also gives you the freedom to reassign standard buttons, allowing you to play however you prefer. In addition, you can adjust the thumbstick sensitivity to influence “your character’s movement speed or view” and modify the dead zone to achieve more precise control. The application offers up to six different sensitivity curves. More details on DualSense Edge customization are available on the official website.

It is also possible to adjust the trigger dead zone, preventing accidental activations of in-game actions due to pressing the controls too hard. Finally, you can customize the controller’s vibration intensity and trigger effect, even having the option to turn off these features if they feel uncomfortable.
