Pedro Manuel Casals, known for his work as a broadcaster and commentator, requested a public apology after the episode of the radio show This Is Not Radio. The controversy arose during an edition of the program The Fourth Strike, where the producer Ariel Santana explained the decision to withdraw content related to the exchange. According to Casals, at the time of the incident, he was addressed with obscene words that cannot be published, but the communicator avoided responding aggressively.
The Debate and Video Withdrawal
The conflict began when Casals and journalist Lisbeth Santos showed different stances on a mental health case and judicial responsibility. The producer Santana explained that the segment had been removed to protect the woman involved, but Casals maintains that fragments with offensive expressions continue to circulate on public platforms. Additionally, the program reached audiences outside the Dominican Republic, increasing the exposure of the incident.
Casals’ Response and Request for a Public Apology
Despite Santana’s apology, which he described as “weak”, Casals considered that the way it was handled was insufficient. The communicator asked that anyone who offended him publicly retract their words with the same exposure as those directed at him.
“If we are men and women strong enough to call a colleague a damn and disgusting person on the air, we have to be equally strong to remove those words from the air”, Casals stated.
Consequences and Future in the Project
Casals announced that he will not participate in the next delivery of the space while waiting for a meeting with the platform’s directors, identified as Melvin and “The Negro”. The conversation aims to determine his future within the program and resolve the conflict.
During his intervention, the communicator stated that he will not negotiate what he considers his dignity to keep a job or a professional relationship. He also thanked several collaborators who expressed support, including Ana Simó, Michelle Pérez Fuentes, and Leila Mejía.
