Tragedy in Brisas del Este: Stepfather of Maikel Demands Justice After Traffic Incident
Wilkin Medina Bernardo, stepfather of Maikel Isaac Encarnación, a 10-year-old boy who lost his life in a traffic incident in Brisas del Este, offered new details about the tragic event. According to Medina Bernardo, both were heading to school when they were hit by a cargo truck on Las Damas Avenue around 1:00 pm.
Medina Bernardo explained that Maikel’s mother asked him to take the boy to school because he was running late. “We were on our way to school. The mother asked me to take the boy to school because he was late, and I said, ‘No problem’,” he recounted. The stepfather confirmed that they were on the right side of the road and that the truck hit them from behind.
Investigation and Responsibilities
The family asked the authorities to advance with the investigations and determine the corresponding responsibilities. “That justice be done. We cannot ask for anything else but justice. He was a very loved child,” Medina Bernardo stated. The neighbors of Brisas del Este also requested that the case be clarified and asked for measures to improve road safety in the area.
Mercedes Méndez, a resident of Brisas del Este, described Maikel as a respectful and close child to the neighbors. “That child gave respect to everyone, ‘auntie’ here, ‘auntie’ there. That child never left my backyard,” she expressed. The community member indicated that several residents quickly went to the scene after receiving the information about the incident and also requested that the case be clarified.
The investigation continues open, and the authorities must determine the causes of the incident and establish responsibilities. Preliminary versions indicate that the people traveling in the truck may have abandoned the scene after the incident, although this information has not been officially confirmed.
