Cotuí.- The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, delivered this Thursday the renovated Professor Garibaldi Almonte indoor multipurpose center in this municipality, following an investment of RD$ 17.5 million pesos.
The facility will be used by the entire community of Cotuí and surrounding areas for socio-recreational, religious, community, and cultural activities, among others.
Minister Cruz highlighted the investment by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MIDEREC) of 12.5 million pesos, and also managed the asphalt paving of the exterior area with a 5 million investment by Public Works, totaling an investment of RD$ 17.5 million for the complete remodeling of the Garibaldi Almonte indoor facility.
He explained that the remodeling of the aforementioned multipurpose center “is part of the broad project for the renovation and construction of sports facilities nationwide being executed by the government of President Luis Abinader.”
“The municipality of Cotuí and surrounding areas will henceforth have a space that can not only be used to practice various sports, but where citizens can also develop various social activities,” specified Minister Cruz.
Accompanying Minister Cruz were Ricardo de los Santos, provincial senator and president of the Senate of the Republic; José Eugenio Montilla, mayor of Cotuí; Cristiana Rodríguez, provincial governor of Cotuí; Apolinar Camacho, provincial director of Sports; Daniel Landeón, regional director of Sports; Juan Gabriel Peguero, president of the Sánchez Ramírez Province Basketball Association (Abaprosara); and Professor Garibaldi Almonte, after whom the renovated multipurpose center is named, among others.
Total remodeling
The minister detailed that the remodeling and complete rescue of the work included the repair of bathrooms and installation of a water pump; also the removal and installation of chain-link fencing, placement of a new FIBA-certified wooden court floor, Aluzinc side enclosures, and special floor paint.
In addition, deep maintenance of the entire roof.
Finally, the entire surrounding area of the facility was beautified, including the placement of an asphalt concrete layer in the parking lots and general electrical installations.
